Apples enorma datacenter i Maiden North Carolina verkar åtminstone till det yttre vara i det närmaste färdigbyggt enligt en färsk helikoptervideo. Anläggningen som ska serva USA:s östkust innebär en investering på mer än 1 miljard USD.
Sedan jag studerat helikopterbilderna lyckades jag pricka in byggområdet i Google Maps. På kartan syns endast skog och åkrar och så sent som hösten 2009 var byggnaden inte komplett.

Apples datacenter kommer att tillhöra de absolut största i världen och pekar mot ambitioner vad gäller molntjänster.
”Apple has said very little about the North Carolina facility, beyond the fact that it will serve as the company’s East coast data hub. Apple also has a West coast data center facility in Newark, Calif. Local officials I’ve spoken with say they believe the space is primarily to support Mobile Me and digital content for the iTunes store. The most interesting question is whether Apple needs a much larger facility to support growth in its existing services, or is scaling up capacity for future offerings.”
